Dolphin Parents,
During the week of September 8-11, students will be taking readiness tests. Kindergarten students will be given the EasyCBM. Please see information letters with dates and times from your child's kindergarten teacher. Students in first through fifth grade will take the Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP®)Growth™ test from NWEA® on a Chromebook. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
As you know, this year the test will be given remotely and on-site (for those who completed the survey by August 31). Since students will primarily be testing at home, we have compiled some helpful tools for you and/or the caregiver to assist students with the login. Teachers are going over this information with students so that they will be familiar with the process.
Please:
remember that students must test on District issued Chromebooks
do not forget that you may help with setting the test up but not with the test itself (do not read any portion of the test)
make sure the device is fully charged before the test day
have students perform the Device Readiness Check by going to www.check.nwea.org on the student’s Chromebook
view this video on Youtube and email the child’s teacher with any questions you may have
remember, your child will not be able to chat with the teacher during the test; a second device (phone, desktop, etc). to chat with the teacher on Google Meet is helpful but not required
make sure students who are testing at school bring their charged Chromebooks and power cord (nothing else) with them
First through fifth grade students whose last names begin with letters A-L will test on September 8 and 9. First through fifth grade students whose last names begin with the letters M-Z will test on September 10 and 11. Students will go to their Google Meet like they do every morning and meet with the teacher before testing begins. They should have their devices on and be ready to begin at 8:55 a.m. For students who indicated they will need transportation, buses will run their normal routes found at Bus Routes or at https://www.richland2.org/Departments/Operations/Transportation/Bus-Routes.
For students who will test at school, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Breakfast will be served from 8:00-8:30 and lunch from 11:15-11:55. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon. Car riders will drop off and pick up students in the front of the school in the car rider line. Bus riders will leave the school at 12:00 p.m.
Again, please let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.
Sincerely,
Mr. Stacey R Gadson
Principal
